Giant Slalom
Giant slalom (GS) is an alpine skiing and alpine snowboarding competitive discipline. It involves racing between sets of poles ("gates") spaced at a greater distance from each other than in Slalom skiing, slalom but less than in Super-G. Giant slalom and slalom make up the technical events in alpine ski racing. This category separates them from the speed events of Super-G and Downhill (ski competition), downhill. The technical events are normally composed of two runs, held on different courses on the same ski run. Course The vertical drop for a GS course must be for men, and for women. The number of gates in this event is 56–70 for men and 46–58 for women. The number of direction changes in a GS course equals 11–15% of the vertical drop of the course in metres, 13–18% for children. Perrine Pelen
Perrine Marie Pelen (born 3 July 1960) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from France. Born at Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris, she made her World Cup debut at age 16 in December 1976 and won three slalom races that Pelen won the bronze medal at the 1980 Winter Olympics in giant slalom; in 1984, she won the silver medal in slalom and another bronze in giant slalom. At the World Championships, she won the silver medal in combined in 1982 and the gold in slalom in 1985. Pelen won fifteen World Cup races and the season title in the slalom in the 1980. She was runner-up in the slalom standings in 1977 and 1978, and took third in 1981, 1984, 1985, and 1986. After ten seasons on the World Cup circuit, Pelen retired from competition following the 1986 season. Perrine Pelen graduated from HEC Paris in 1988. Roswitha Stadlober (née Steiner) (born 14 June 1963 in Radstadt, Salzburg) is an Austrian former alpine skier. Career She concluded her career at the end of the 1987/1988 season by clinching her second Slalom World Cup title, also winning her last race in Aspen. She is married to Alois Stadlober, a former Austrian cross-country skier and world champion at the 1999 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Their son Luis Stadlober and daughter Teresa Stadlober are also competitive cross-country skiers. Roswitha has served as a member of the executive committee of the Austrian Ski Federation since 2011.
